Igniting Young Minds to Reach for a Bright Future

Preschool Academy Celebrates the Week of the Young Child

Huntington Beach City School District's Preschool Academy proudly joined schools across the nation in celebrating the Week of the Young Child, an annual event established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to honor the importance of early childhood education and the foundational role it plays in every child's growth and development.

This year's celebration brought energy and joy to every corner of our classrooms, with each day's theme sparking creativity, teamwork, movement, and healthy exploration. Here's a look at how our youngest learners made the most of every moment:

  • Music & Movement Monday set a lively tone for the week. Students shook homemade egg shakers, danced with scarves, beat rattle drums, and paraded through classrooms with instruments in hands.

  • Tasty Tuesday turned snack time into a learning adventure. Children tasted and charted popcorn flavors, squeezed fresh lemonade, crafted cereal necklaces, and even made their own mini pizzas, exploring their senses one delicious bite at a time.

  • Work Together Wednesday put collaboration front and center. Teams stacked big blue blocks, built imaginative box cars, assembled puzzles, and constructed towers from wooden blocks, cardboard tubes, and gadgets, discovering what's possible when we work side by side.

  • Artsy Thursday turned classrooms into studios. Students created dot art on butcher paper, left colorful handprint posters, experimented with plastic-foil painting, and worked together on a collaborative popsicle-stick watercolor project, each piece a reflection of their unique creativity.

  • Family Fun Friday brought the whole community together for lunch with a loved one. Families joined students on campus to share a meal, strengthening the bonds between home and school and creating memories that will last long after the week is over.

From the first beat of Monday's parade to the last shared laugh over Friday's lunch, the Week of the Young Child reminded us of what matters most, curious minds, caring relationships, and a community that shows up for its kids. We are grateful to our dedicated educators and the families whose partnership makes moments like these possible.
